Happy Is What Happens

“Happy is what happens when all your dreams come true.”
-Glinda the Good Witch, Wicked

On Wednesday night, I went to see Wicked.  I had never seen it before and had heard so many good things about it, so I was really excited to go.  Thanks to NYU London's Student Life Team, the tickets were free!  A few friends and I made our way to the Apollo Victoria Theatre for the play.

The first thing that struck me as odd was the fact that you could eat and drink inside the theatre.  New York theaters are so strict about eating food, even water, while the play is going on.  I just couldn't eat inside the theatre; it was just too weird.

The Apollo Theatre was absolutely beautiful.  And Wicked was amazing.  The last song before intermission was Defying Gravity, and the performance of that song literally gave me goosebumps.  Goosebumps.  It was absolutely incredible.

The story itself was so heartwarming.  I was on the verge of tears so many times, and I almost lost it at the end.  My recommendation is to go see it.  It's even better if you can get free tickets! ;)

I was so afraid that I wouldn't do anything cultural while I was here in London, but NYU's Student Life Team is here great at making sure we do stuff.  Seeing a Broadway play reminded me of New York (is it still a Broadway play if it's not technically on Broadway?), and it felt like the theatre seat was giving me a much needed hug from New York City.
